As CNN is now reporting, the U.S. government has issued a new rule that would make it a felony crime for any journalist, reporter, blogger or photographer to approach any oil cleanup operation, equipment or vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. Anyone caught is subject to arrest, a $40,000 fine and prosecution for a federal felony crime.
This. This is one of the main things that is killing people in the South. They are trying to help themselves and one another and they are roadblocked at every front. They aren’t just not receiving help. They are actively being prevented from getting information and from doing things to help themselves. Arrrggghhh.
While this seems deplorable in either light, I don’t see how WHERE you is protected by an amendment regarding what we can SAY.
Except that the text of the amendment specially refers to freedom of the press: “or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” But even more to the point.
